and summer youth programs undertaken by schools, church, businesses
and civic organisations. |

| Assist in efforts to provide lighting and other
amenities at ball fields, in neighbourhood parks and other community
recreational spots. |
| Develop and disseminate various types of print and electronic media
for Youth that reinforce their civic responsibilities and serve to
counteract the range of potential negative influences in their lives. |
| Support mechanisms for recognizing and promoting
positive young people and youth activities throughout The Bahamas |
| Expand programs that address conflict resolution and truancy reduction
issues among young people. |

FAMILY LIFE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
|
| Establish victim's advocacy programme to provide counseling and
intervention for victims of crime. |
| Support intervention programmes for victims of
domestic violence. |
| Promote initiatives to encourage payment of child support. |
| Support and expand programmes geared to discourage
teen pregnancy and promote sexual responsibility. |
| Develop and disseminate various types of information through print
and electronic media aimed at mitigating the incidence of child and
spousal abuse, and drug and alcohol abuse. |

PRISON & REHABILITATION
|
| Support and expand transition programmes for former
prisoners re-entering society and the job market. |
| Support personal and vocational skills development initiatives undertaken
in prison. |
| Support the creation of video for schools, churches
and the media providing prisoner testimonials and an overview of the
reality of prison life. |

NEIGHBOURHOD & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
|
| Strengthen and expand neighbourhood watch/consultative
group. |
| Conduct neighbourhood security audits and seek improvements based
on audit findings. |
| Profile in the electronic and print media, the
various positive neighbourhood and community initiatives. |
| Organise and assist efforts to provide adequate lighting and amenities. |

PETTY CRIME & WHITE COLLAR CRIME
|
| Conduct a survey to assess the impact of crime
on the operational costs of government, businesses, and on the cost
of living to individual citizens; and to publicize the findings. |
| Focus attention on and advocate stronger prosecution of white collar
crimes including fraud, shoplifting and employee theft. |
|
CRIMINAL JUSTICE, COURTS & THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM
|
| Suggest Police initiatives geared towards cracking
down on both petty and major criminal activity, enhancing investigative
techniques and technologies and fostering better community relations. |
| Activate a well publicised, well organised and properly funded "Crime
Tipsters" programme. |
| Promote 'restorative justice'. |
| Advocate for establishment of a Victim's Code of Rights and promote
greater sensitivity on the part of the criminal justice system in
dealing with the victims of crime. |
